All pupils who decide to choose PE as a GCSE option will follow the AQA syllabus.
The course is outlined below.
Knowledge and Understanding for the Active Participant will account for 40% of the course and will be theory based and assessed by a written paper lasting 1 ½ hours.
The Active Participant will involve 4 controlled assessments and will contribute towards 60% of the final mark. Pupils will choose 4 different activities from a wide range of activities offered. At least one of these assessments must be undertaken in the role of a coach, an organiser or an official.

Pupils need to enjoy the practical nature of Physical Education and participate on a regular basis in curriculum PE, represent on school teams and show an interest in sport outside school.
All pupils will sit the same examination paper and this will cover the full range of GCSE grades.
