Examination Coursework Policy

EXAMINATION COURSEWORK POLICYbooks_400

RATIONALE

Coursework is an essential component of assessment in most GCSE courses.  Teachers and parents have key roles to play in supporting and guiding students through coursework completion.

PREPARING FOR COURSEWORK

Subject teachers must ensure that students are made aware of assessment criteria, coursework weightings, deadlines for drafts and completed work. The consequences of malpractice should also be explained.

CARRYING OUT COURSEWORK

It is the responsibility of the student to act upon the advice given.

Deadlines should be adhered to by students as falling behind will limit the opportunities the students may have to improve their work.

FINALISING COURSEWORK

Subject teachers will assess coursework using relevant assessment criteria and will complete the associated documentation.

COURSEWORK GUIDELINES

If a subject teacher does not have evidence of ongoing work s/he should act by drawing this to the attention of the Subject Coordinator and, if necessary, the student’s parents.  If the problem persists the student should be referred to the Form Tutor.  In every case, concerns should be reported at the earliest opportunity.
